Join us in the historic surrounds of our 240 year-old land grant farm. The Rusticator Restaurant in the original Oakland House Hotel is much like it was 119 years ago when our ancestors opened their homestead to the rusticators on July 4th, 1889.
Here, you’ll savor the timeless feel and simple pleasures of an oceanfront farm. Select from Executive Chef Rich Hanson’s menu ripe with his original interpretations of seasonal New England and American dishes celebrating the bounty from local family owned farms in Hancock County and the great State of Maine.
Chef Rich Hanson creates a menu that reinvents the cuisine of a property rich in history, from the Gilded Age of its birth to its placement in the epicenter of the local foods Renaissance.
Rich is well known locally on the Blue Hill Peninsula where he cooked for seven years at beloved Jonathan’s Restaurant. He and his wife Cary opened "Cleonice Mediterranean Bistro" in nearby Ellsworth, Maine in 2002, where Rich made his name using the bounty of our local farmers, fishermen and food crafters to create a Mediterranean inspired menu. Accolades and awards followed, culminating in his first nomination, in 2008, for New England regional Chef of the Year by the James Beard Society.
The menu is extraordinary. Our on-site organic gardens provide the extra special touches in herbs and edible flowers not found anywhere else while Chef Rich and Cary own and operate a farm of their own, Artisana in nearby Orland, Maine. From Artisana comes fresh produce, eggs, and pork. The gardens in both locations provide nurture for guests and staff alike.
Sample Daily Menu. Farm fresh ingredients cooked to order.
We offer wine, beer, soft drinks, waters, and digestifs, cognac, port wines by the bottle or glass.
